Put your office in your pocket with the incredibly stylish and powerful P990i smartphone from Sony Ericsson. Featuring Symbian OS 9.1, the latest version of the Symbian UIQ software platform, support for high-speed 3G (UMTS) Internet access, video calling, secure push email, and more, the P990i takes effective communications to new heights. The P990i also has a 2 megapixel digital camera with video capture capabilities, allowing you to catch the moment and save it or send it.

Put your office in your pocket with the incredibly stylish and powerful P990i. See the P990i video.

The latest Symbian UIQ software lets you do more than ever before.

Messaging and email is breeze--support for push email systems from BlackBerry and Exchange are built in, too.

If you have UMTS service, take advantage of video calling.
Design
The P990i is a candy bar phone on steroids. The slim form factor makes the P990i easy to carry, hold and use. You can carry it comfortably in your pocket or in a bag. The touchscreen and Jog Dial navigation make using the P990i easy and intuitive, and a large, 240 x 320 screen that supports 262,000 colors is excellent for watching video, viewing images, and reading email and other messages. A full QWERTY keyboard is located below the screen. The keyboard is revealed by flipping down the P990i's dialpad, which is removable if you just want to use the touchscreen dialpad. Meanwhile, the phone's touchscreen navigation is intuitive, allowing you to tap any function icon on the P990i desktop to open an application.

The P990i features 60 MB of internal memory, and a 64MB Memory Stick PRO Duo is included. Of course, you can always augment this with larger Memory Stick Micro media. The phone also features connectivity via USB (USB mass storage is supported), a Sony Ericsson "fast-port" for high-speed data transfers and power charging, and infrared. Bluetooth is also built-in, enabling wireless communication with other wireless devices, such as headsets, laptops, and PDAs. Plus, you also get Wi-Fi capabilities allowing you to tap into a fast Internet connection whenever you're in range of an 802.11b Wi-Fi network.

Calling Features
Because the P990i is a Symbian UIQ smartphone, it features solid integration of phone, contacts, and calendar applications, making it very easy to bring your office with you wherever you roam. The phone supports polyphonic ringtones, as well as musical ringers in MP3 or AAC format. For times when you want to be discreet, there's a vibrating alert. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Video calling via a UMTS high speed wireless data connection is also supported, thanks to the video camera located on the front of the device.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The P990i is a 3G/UMTS data-enabled device, so you know it's going to pack a lot of great Internet and messaging features. In addition to MMS and SMS messaging, push email is supported. You can use the device's integrated handwriting recognition to write your email and SMS messages. With a carrier data plan, you can easily connect to the Internet and browse the Web with the included Opera browser, which supports HTML, xHTML, CSS and Javascript protocols. You can also use the P990i as a modem to provide an Internet connection to your laptop or PDA via Bluetooth or USB. As mentioned, Wi-Fi connectivity means that you can tap into wireless hotspots for fast Web browsing.

When it comes to important tools, the Symbian operating system has you covered. Easily edit documents you receive as attachments to emails, or that you have stored on memory card. Or use other tools, such as the alarm clock, a stopwatch, task and notes applications, a sound recorder, a and a file manager. As mentioned, fully-functional contacts and calendar applications are included, and they can be easily synchronized with other devices and services. You can also save time by using the handy business card scanner.

Entertainment
The P990i shines as a music player, offering a great way to listen and organize your digital tunes on the go. The in-phone media player supports video and audio playback--supported audio formats include MP3 and AAC. There's even an application, Music DJ, that allows you to compose your own musical ringtones. Mega Bass sound enhancement makes your low notes really thump, while support for stereo Bluetooth headsets means you can jam out to tunes wirelessly, or just listen to your favorite radio station with the P990i's built in FM radio.

And don't forget gaming! The P990i supports Java-based games, as well as sophisticated 3D games that make the P990i great to have along when you need to turn downtime into fun time.

Vital Statistics
The Sony Ericsson P990i weighs 5.3 ounces and measures 4.4 x 2.2 x 1 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 7.5 hours of digital talk time, and up to 340 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the 900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS and 2100 MHz UMTS frequencies.

Summary: The best business PDA for its time
Comment: This product is definitely outdated by today's technology levels. However, for a business person on the move this product had the most thoughtful set of features I could find at that time in a phone. I had 2 years of absolutely trouble free superb service from this phone. One of the features I liked the most was the ability to create specialized lists of contacts from whom alone, the phone would allow calls called the "accepted calls" list. This feature is extremely useful to people who spend a lot of time in meetings and run projects. This product convinced me that in many ways symbion OS is far more stable than even MS-mobile OS. If not for the fact that it is bulky and out of date today, I would still buy this phone. Sony ericsson took a definite step backward in features when it went to X1 after this phone. THIS WAS AND IS A MATURE PHONE.

Summary: P990i Nice phone overall but takes getting use to
Comment: I have had this phone for about 1 month now and it is a great looking phone that screams out (im expensive) however it is a little bulky.

-GOODS-
0 I like the business card scanner, it scans business cards and inputs all the info on your contact list, however it does not always transfer all the info correctly.

0 The 2mg pic camera is a good alternate camera that takes descent pics.

0 I like the radio feature that allows you to listen to local radio stations if you opt to (sony ear phones required).

0 I enjoy playing the golf game that comes with the phone, it really is an upgrade from usual phone standard games.

0 contact list/recent calls/missed calls is well orgainized and is user friendly.

0 supports microsoft media and pdf

-BADS-
0 My RAZR had better connections; when I call sometimes I get bad audio feedback and I have to hang up and call back to get a better audio feedback(very annoying).

0 the phone does temporary freeze up if you are too quick for the processor and you pick to many options at once.

0 The speaker option is available at the beginning of phone calls and then goes away, you must choose between this small time frame to pick speaker phone or not.

Summary: What a JOKE!
Comment: Ill make this qwik and painless.. dont buy this phone. I researched top of the line phones for months and this one seemed to be the best. HA! I bought it and it had sooo many problems.. Not to mention the very UN-userfriendly interface, the 990's best feature, the touchscreen, turned out to be its worst feature.. it made doing anything into a complicated task of measurment and hand eye coordination to access the correct button and navigate through tha bass-ackwards menus. Ohh and did I mention that it freezes and shuts off all of the time.. save your money. I went back to my 2 year old nokia and Im loving it in comparison.

Summary: Best Phone I Have Used
Comment: I have used Nokia, Samsung, and now Sony Ericsson-the P990i being my first Sony Ericsson. I read many negative reviews and a few positive reviews of this phone. I finally determined that almost all negative reviews were the result of owners not updating the firmware and not using the phone properly. This phone does everything it is advertised as doing and it does it very well. The picture quality is amazing, the WiFi works perfectly, (after getting used to the operating system) it is easy to navigate around the screens, and the battery lasts for days with my normal usage-an hour of talking, 30 minutes of internet, take a few pictures, look at the pictures, etc. I removed the keypad and think it looks great and can use it with one hand, thanks to the touch sensitive screen. It is not too large-fits in my front jeans pocket easily and the price is the best I found for all that it does.
